Summertime Goal Adventures for Your Kids

School’s out for the summer!

I can hear every principal excitedly announcing this news through the school’s intercom system. I can see worn-out sneakers pummeling their way out of the metal doors and down the concrete steps. I can smell the sweet promise of the ice cream truck jingling its way through the neighborhood.

Summertime is such a sweet blessing of freedom and endless adventure!

But once the exhilaration wears off, once all the Popsicle sticks have been melted down and are now stuck somewhere in the yard, and once the almost-broken sprinkler doesn’t hold the same pizazz as the first soaker session, then the couch-and-screen combo tends to become the favorite pastime.

But what if we did something more with this seasonal freedom? What if we BECAME something more? What if the summertime adventure didn’t have to end?

And Jesus increased…

“And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” Luke 2:52

Imagine young Jesus, barefoot in the dust, learning, and growing into the Savior He was born to be. God gave Him time to wonder, to explore, and to discover His divine role little by little.

Childhood is that same gift for our own little ones — a wide-open, golden season of becoming. And what better time than summertime, when the world feels endless and adventures call from every corner, to help our children explore their heavenly identity? With a sprinkle of goal-setting and a dash of wonder, we can turn these sunny days into stepping stones toward their brightest, Christ-centered selves.

Our own kiddos can increase in wisdom (intellectual) and stature (physical), and in favour with God (spiritual) and man (social).

What if we became something?

Summertime is like a golden adventure book just waiting to be opened—each day a fresh page for kids to splash in puddles of purpose and climb trees of wonder! With school on pause and sunshine on their shoulders, children have the perfect chance to explore new talents, stretch their imaginations, and dive into joyful deeds that make them more like Jesus. Whether they’re baking cookies for a neighbor, painting prayers with sidewalk chalk, or learning to listen with their whole hearts, summer becomes a holy playground where kindness, creativity, and Christlike love bloom in the bright, breezy days.
